Paxton Kyōya is the male player character and main protagonist from Pokémon Legends: Z-A. He is the savior of Lumiose City, the strongest mega evolution user, a member of Team MZ, and a part time detective at the Looker Bureau.

Paxton is a toned young man with pale skin. He has faint, though visible, muscle definition, but mostly on his legs and stomach. He has oval-shaped, brownish-gray irises and thick, round lashes. His eyebrows are thick, rounded, and the same shade as his hair: blue gray. His hair is grayish-blue and cut short, with the longest edges reaching his upper shoulders. Pieces of rounded, somewhat pointy strands of hair curl upwards at his nape. Two hair curls are visible from the front—with one on each side—while the rest are visible only from his back. A bang with two parts sweeps partly over the left-hand side of his face, with the innermost part curling towards his lower cheek and below his ear, while the outermost part points upwards, just above his ear. He wears a black trilby hat with a light gray pinstripe that makes a vague “M” shape in the middle of the hat. Underneath his hat, on the upper right-hand side of his head and near his bang, is a long, pointy ahoge that extends upwards.

He sports a neon-green jacket with puffy brown-gray sleeves and black, wrist tight cuffs. The collar is black and rests comfortably on his shoulders. The brown-gray material of the sleeves covers the entire back, and meets the neon-green material at his upper arms and shoulders. It’s unzipped, revealing a plain white v-neck shirt underneath, which tucks neatly into his skinny jeans. On the upper left-hand side front of the jacket is a white and red embroidered patch that faintly resembles Pokéball, and it’s outlined in blue. A large embroidered patch of Team MZ’s logo takes up almost the entirety of the middle and upper back of the jacket. The inside is the same shade of neon-green and, like the front, has rectangular black ends. Two pockets adorn the sides with neon-green circular buttons. The jacket goes past his waist and covers the upper half of his rear.He wears black skinny jeans with a rounded gray pattern—in two shades—with the middle-most pattern being the lightest shade of gray, on the knees. While the pattern's focal point is mostly on the knees, the pattern extends to his lower thighs and upper shins. He wears bright red tennis shoes with white laces. The shoes have thick black trim and a Pokéball logo on the tongue. A thin blue belt with a rectangular silver buckle loops through each belt loop. His belt loops have silver rivets. Connected to his belt, on the right, is a bright red circular pouch, which resembles a Pokéball, that rests against his rear. On his left-hand side’s wrist is a thick, pale golden metal bracelet with a keystone fastened in the middle.

PERSONALITY ⨾

Paxton is a kind and charismatic young man who wears his heart on his sleeve. An open book, he’s always honest, and isn’t shy in the slightest to express how he truly feels, whether his feelings are positive or negative. He’s equally as expressive physically; every emotion shows on his face crystal clearly, which makes it difficult for him to hide how he feels. He does, however, have a bad habit of bottling up his more sad emotions, to avoid worrying the people around him, or giving off a bad impression. If he breaks down or cries, then he can’t be relied on, and he can’t continue to protect everyone, which would be a failure. That’s what he tells himself, to keep himself level-headed and cool. It’s not often he experiences those emotions thankfully, due to his blind optimism and cheerful way of going about things. It’s almost impossible to get him down.He goes with the flow, and while full of life, is a laid-back individual in terms of outward expression. He never shouts, never gets upset or angry, and never cries. No matter what happens to him, or the world around him, he remains calm. The only thing that truly sets him off is when his love and care is called into question or made fun of. Then, Paxton can be childish in his anger by panicking and crying, and becomes desperate to defend those things. That being said, such a strong and intense reaction only occurs during those two exact circumstances. Otherwise, he’s a carefree and laid-back man who tries to look on the bright side of things. He’s, again, very difficult to upset, and bottles up his negative emotions. He has an image to uphold; an image that’s incredibly important to him.Considerate, mindful, and courteous, Paxton is always thinking of others and rarely—if ever—of himself. His mannerisms reflect his sweetness; he never curses, is extremely polite in both words and actions, and respects boundaries. He expresses a playful and kind tone when speaking, even when upset. He loves to tease people and is an extremely playful person. While respectful, Paxton is no stranger to being cheeky and flirtatious, especially towards a man who has caught his eye. He’s a helpless romantic who desperately longs for love to the point of daydreaming about it, writing about it in his journal, chasing crushes, and watching romantic TV shows and movies. Love motivates him; he truly believes in the concept of true love.He sees the good in all people, no matter what they’ve done, and is far too trusting for his own safety. Paxton’s quick to forgive when wronged and rarely holds grudges. He’s also a terrible liar. When he lies, it’s extremely obvious, to the point that if he were to hold a grudge or get angry, it’d be impossible to hide. So, Paxton opts to forgive, and gives people the benefit of the doubt instead, rather than to outright assume malice. He doesn’t believe anyone is truly evil; it’s their actions that are evil. He likes to believe everyone can change for the better, as naive as that thought process is, though he’s oblivious to it being naive. If he’s able to, he’ll always extend a helping hand to anyone who reaches out.Helpful, he can’t turn down a request for help, no matter what the aforementioned request may be. Unfortunately, Paxton’s a bit of a pushover, however, who struggles to say no. He’ll more often than not indulge in the sudden whims of others without uttering a single complaint, and easily gets dragged into other people's issues and shenanigans. While level-headed and calm—even during the most dangerous and stressful of situations—Paxton tends to act before thinking, and can be extremely reckless in his attempts to save people. Paxton’s not scared to throw himself in the line of danger to protect who, and what, he loves. He’ll persevere through any injury he obtains, or any pain he faces, no matter how grave it may be, solely for the sake of the well-being of others, because that is what he believes he should do.Paxton acknowledges people look up to him and trust him to keep them safe; he takes his reputation as the Savior of Lumiose very seriously. Sometimes, all the expectations and praise do get to his head. He’ll feel like a failure who cannot protect anyone when he loses a battle, and will sometimes call his strength and skills into question, but he’s usually quick to bounce back to his usual happy self after a bit of praise and some time to think. He refuses to let the people who look up to him down or disappoint them. He has a bit of a savior complex, which developed from all the things he has accomplished in Lumiose City, and with how many people look up to him for protection. He bears the entire weight of the world on his shoulders, and chooses to ignore how crushing that can be.He’s empathetic, being able to effortlessly pick up on the feelings of others. Their feelings also affect him, too. Because of his desire to help, when someone is upset and/or hurt, Paxton can be pushy in his efforts to “save” them, whether that be by giving advice or something else entirely. He aims to solve problems as quickly as possible and wants nothing more than to be reliable. These two traits tie heavily into his savior complex; he seriously can’t stand to see people struggling, especially if he can help. It doesn’t help that it feels like helping everyone is expected of him, too, since tons of people approach him for his aid, usually for the most mundane of things. He never complains or gets annoyed, though. To be useful gives him purpose. He can’t let a single soul down.Paxton’s extremely intelligent and excels in both street smarts and book smarts. He’s also perceptive, and can pick up on seemingly small and insignificant details. Extroverted, he thrives off attention and enjoys being around others. He’s not shy about walking up to a stranger and striking up a conversation. While he can function on his own, he gets bored and lonely easily, and will quickly seek out a friend to be around, whether that someone be a Pokémon, a person, a friend, or a stranger. Paxton has an insatiable taste for adventure and can never sit still—he’s always out and about and exploring. Having new experiences excites him; he actively seeks them out. He dreams of traveling the whole entire world in hopes of having those said new experiences, and again, to hopefully find love.An adrenaline junkie, Paxton adores a good challenge. Pokémon battles are his passion particularly; he lives for clashes where he can go toe to toe with someone and bring out the true strength of his team. After all, that makes the victory taste much sweeter, and helps enforce the idea that he can protect everyone, and the city he’s come to love so much. He has so much love to give, and truly wants what’s best for everyone, people and Pokémon alike. He’s a kind person, a good trainer, and a reliable teammate.

Paxton was born in the early morning hours of November 23rd in Goldenrod City, Johto. Born into a regular working class family, he grew up in a loving household with his mother, his father, and the family pet: Furret. His mother was a stay at home parent who took care of the household and kids, while his father worked to provide for the family.Despite his father having a busy work schedule that demanded his constant attention, the family unit always would find time for each other. Every home cooked meal Paxton’s mother made, they’d eat together. Every Sunday, they’d watch a movie together. They’d talk about their day freely, and any future plans they may have. They’d go shopping together. Because his parents prioritized having time together, and would listen to Paxton without judgement, he knew he could approach them about anything and everything. Needless to say, Paxton was surrounded by love, care, and support.When Paxton was 5, he began to attend elementary school in his hometown. He was a well-behaved and model student who made straight A’s. He took his studies seriously, but had an active social life, too. He’d make friends easily, who he’d play with and hang out with at recess.Not only that, but his love for adventure shone at a young age. By the time school would let out, Paxton would immediately rush off to go play outside, every day. Due to his adventurous side, Paxton’s parents would send Furret along with him to keep him safe. While he didn’t stray any further than just the routes outside his city, he did manage to have a few run-ins with aggressive Pokémon in tall grass. With Furret at his side, he was able to learn how to battle by fighting against those wild Pokémon and running away. Despite learning how to battle, he never possessed too much of an interest in becoming a Pokémon Trainer. Instead, something else was on his mind…As Paxton grew, he remained somewhat the same; he was still a model student who made good grades, and he still loved exploring the outer city with Furret. What changed was a sudden interest in romance, when he was around 13 years old. A normal occurrence for numerous young teenagers. However, it was slightly different for Paxton. He discovered he liked other boys, and not girls. What confirmed his attraction was when he began to think about himself and his best friend dating. He’d get grossed out when his friends teased him about possibly liking a girl, too, despite him never liking one. Wanting a romantic relationship with his best friend, he shyly asked him out, but was turned down.Rather than be discouraged by the rejection, Paxton continued to believe in “true love,” and desperately wanted that for himself. He began to watch romance movies, and daydreamed about having a fairytale romantic life of his own. While he tried to date a handful of boys afterwards, and developed crushes very easily, every boy he confessed to was straight. While his family was there for him and accepted him the second when he came out, Paxton longed for a deeper connection. He’d desperately chase romance between his studies, but he was never successful, unfortunately. That was his teenagehood; a vicious cycle of studying and unsuccessfully chasing romance.When he graduated high school at 18, Paxton wasn’t sure what to do with his life. He researched careers that piqued his interest and tried a few hobbies growing up, but nothing really stuck with him or struck him. The only two things he could keep a consistent interest in was romance and adventure. After some thinking, he decided to try and combine the two. He began to research places to possibly travel to, with the hopes of finding a job abroad, and maybe even a romantic partner.Eventually, he settled on traveling to Lumiose City. Though it was located in the Kalos region, he was certain it was a perfect fit. Not only are there numerous career opportunities, but it’s also known as the “city of love”. Certainly he’d achieve the cheesy romance he had been dreaming of for years, and find a career to be proud of!Following this conclusion, Paxton began job hunting, and a week later, he got a job at the nearby Pokémart. Life became work, then rest, then work. He hardly had much free time to himself, since he took on so many shifts to save as much money as possible. After one long year of dedicated work, at the age of 19, he finally saved enough money to buy a plane ticket and a hotel room. While he had researched the entirety of Lumiose City, he didn’t know what hotel to stay at. There were far too many good options to choose from. So, Paxton opted to bring cash with him instead, and to find a hotel when he actually arrived in the city. He’d be able to browse then. Too excited to wait another day, he packed his bag a week before the trip, in an old bag his father gave him.Then, the day of his trip finally came. Buzzing with excitement, he couldn’t sleep the night before. He checked his itinerary numerous times, browsed the café’s menus, and studied the map of the city the whole entire night (and the week before, honestly), to ensure everything was perfectly planned, and that he didn’t miss a single thing. His parents took him to the airport in Goldenrod City early in the morning, and while they were excited for him, they were also nervous to send him off. After a tearful goodbye, Paxton boarded the plane and arrived in the Kalos Region, specifically Coumarine City, hours later. He then immediately boarded a train to Lumiose City afterwards.Upon stepping off of the train and exiting the station, Paxton was immediately approached by a strawberry blonde woman about his age, who cheerfully introduced herself as Taunie. Deemed as the “perfect tourist” by Taunie because of his looks, she asked if he’d be interested in filming a promotional video for Hotel Z. Before he could even get a word out, however, Taunie noticed Paxton’s bag was missing. Seconds later, they spotted a Pancham rushing off with it. Blaming herself for the theft, Taunie vowed she would get his bag back. So, the pair began to chase Pancham with Taunie’s three Pokémon in tow.Eventually, they caught up with Pancham, who now stood next to two trainers. The two trainers recognized Taunie immediately; she was the trainer who beat them in the Royale the night before. They challenged the pair to a battle as revenge for their defeat, and said they would only get the bag back if they won. Taunie accepted the challenge, and lent Paxton her Chikorita to battle with. She told him its moves, and combined with his prior battling experience, he was able to secure the win, allowing him to get his bag back.After seeing how in-sync Paxton and Chikorita were, Taunie gave the grass-type Pokémon to Paxton. Afterwards, she took him on a tour of the city. However, by the time they finished the impromptu tour, night had fallen. Feeling it was her fault for keeping him for so long, Taunie decided to take Paxton to Hotel Z to safely spend the night, away from the Battle Zones…Only for a Battle Zone to appear outside of Hotel Z, forcing the pair to enter it. As they traversed the Battle Zone, Taunie explained the mechanics, and showed them how they work. After battling some Royale trainers and sticking to the sidelines, Hotel Z finally came into view. However, before the pair could exit, they were ambushed by three trainers who wanted to battle. While Taunie tried to bargain with them, AZ’s Floette appeared, and shot a Light of Ruin into the sky. Scared by the blast, the trainers quickly ran off, allowing Paxton and Taunie to escape and finally make it to Hotel Z. Taunie then led Paxton to the counter, where he would meet AZ. He’d then be given a key to Room 202, where he’d spend the night.The rest of the game would transpire from there. Paxton would join Team MZ, calm rogue mega evolved Pokémon, save the city from a rogue Prism Tower, and save the city again from the Hyperspace phenomenon; allowing him to become known as Lumiose’s Savior across the city and world.Since going through all that, Paxton has come to see Lumiose City as his home. Thus, he decided he’d live in the city permanently, and now stays at Hotel Z permanently. In his free time, he continues to participate in the Infinite Z-A Royale, help the general public with their issues, explore the leftover portals of Hyperspace, travel the regions, and more. While his life may have become significantly more busy since childhood, he doesn’t regret coming to Lumiose City whatsoever. He’s more than happy where he’s at, and wants nothing more than to continue to be relied on.

Deemed the strongest Mega Evolution user, Paxton possesses the ability to Mega Evolve multiple Pokémon per battle, not just one or two. He’ll Mega Evolve his Pokémon the very first opportunity he’s presented with. Befitting of his title, Paxton’s a skilled and powerful opponent who overwhelms his opponents with raw offense. Each Pokémon holds their respective mega stones. While he has many Pokémon in the box, the six listed below are his main companions.Tap on the images below for more information on each individual Pokémon.

All of these Pokémon are capable of mega evolution and hold their mega stones.He doesn’t use these Pokémon often, and chooses to use his main team instead. However, he’ll occasionally swap his team around if he needs the type advantage, or something else.Most of these Pokémon are not properly trained, and thus, are the same or similar in level to when they were caught.AZ’s Floette isn’t kept in a Pokéball and Paxton doesn’t use it in battle. It wanders Hotel Z. It’s only listed here since it technically belongs to him.While once caught, Yveltal and Xerneas were released to keep the balance of the world. He didn’t find it right to keep the Pokémon of life and death.Paxton will take Pokémon out of the box often to care for them. They were destined to be partners, and Taunie saw that. So, following that battle, Taunie gave Chikorita to Paxton, and told him to take good care of it. The two have been through a lot together, and as a result of those times, are very close. Paxton considers Meganium his ace, and will always lead with it in battle. It loves to lounge in the sunshine. While docile, it’s protective of its trainer, and will do anything to keep him safe.

Paxton found it sitting by itself while staring at the moon. He decided he’d accompany it, which scared it at first, but it eventually eased up when it realized Paxton meant no harm. The two hung out until the sun started to rise. Figuring Cleffa would want to sleep, he got up to leave, only for Cleffa to stop him and cry. He decided to catch it and make it a member of his team. He couldn’t leave it. An introverted creature, Clefable cares deeply for its trainer, and is much more open around Paxton than any other person or Pokémon. Despite that, it’ll always ensure everyone else is taken care of before it even considers its own well-being. It’s nurturing in that regard. Clefable can also be pretty forgetful, and often misremembers details, such as another person’s favorite things. Nevertheless, it tries its best, and is a truly sweet Pokémon. When Paxton needs to travel around quickly, he’ll mega evolve Clefable so it can carry him and fly around easily.

While jumping from roof to roof, he caught a glimpse of the Pokémon amongst a small horde of other Chimecho and Chingling. Once he saw it, he immediately knew he had to catch it and make it a member of his team, since its furin resemblance reminded him of Johto, which subsequently made him homesick. With Chimecho, it feels as if he’s carrying a piece of home with him, no matter where he goes. It makes a lot of noise, and loves hearing the sound its own bell makes. It also loves soaking up the sun while attached to a tree branch or roof. Paxton thinks it’s the cutest thing in existence, and frequently dotes on it.

It prefers being left alone, but is a fierce fighter and ruthless battler. It quietly feeds off of Paxton’s life energy for sustenance, but he has so much that he has not yet noticed.

It’s the newest addition to Paxton’s team. Despite its large size, it likes to curl up on Paxton’s lap to nap, which often traps him and keeps him from moving, sometimes upwards for hours. He doesn’t want to wake it up, despite its electricity making his hair stick up. When awake, it loves to run around at fast speeds. It joins Paxton on his parkour sessions, though it tends to get far ahead of him within the blink of an eye. Its fast speed absolutely amazes him!

It was curious of Paxton from the start. As a lone cell, it jumped inside Paxton’s bag while he was on the train to Lumiose, and quietly observed his heroic actions. As Paxton defeated more and more Rogue Pokémon, Zygarde began to trust Paxton. It believed he could help save the world from an impending disaster. So, in its 10% forme, it’d start to make itself known throughout Paxton’s journey. After a handful of battles against it, it would give Paxton a stone, which would end up being its 100% forme’s mega stone. It’s made up of numerous cells and cores, pieces it calls upon to change forms when it senses the natural order of the environment is in danger. It enforces the delicate balance between life and death with considerable power. It’s guided by a strong sense of justice. While the world is no longer in immediate threat, it remains in its 10% forme to continue to accompany Paxton. It trusts him to command it. It’s still capable of becoming its 100% forme, but Paxton rarely orders it to become that forme. He doesn’t want to abuse its power, and views it more as a close companion. Zygarde is the last Pokémon Paxton will send out during battle.
